ARIZONA ADVENTURES
Government – A tour of the state capital building- with a booklet to fill out during the tour; local government offices of mayor or town hall; visits to the police station and fire station; and going to the post office to mail a postcard back home.
Culture - visits to Indian Ruins (Tuzigoot and Montezuma’s Castle)- homes of the original settlers, the Anasazi Indians; Pioneer Village Living History Museum- a step back in time to the 1800’s into an authentic Old West town; Science Museum with Planetarium- to look at the Arizona Night sky, and Organ Stop Pizza (home of the worlds largest pipe organ).
Ecological - Grand Canyon National Park (and possible horseback rides), Sunset Crater Volcano National Park – hike through a lava flow field which erupted 900 years ago, and Sedona Red Rock tours (and possible Pink Jeep Tour through the formations and into the mountains); Desert Botanical Park Night Tour – using flashlights participants learn about desert life at night time.
*Historical and Geographical knowledge is interspersed within the above categories to round out the interdisciplinary nature of these tours as well.
Education – Tours of Arizona State University (ASU), Scottsdale Community College, and depending on the age of participants, an insightful tour of two local high schools, for comparison to their schools. If participants are older, it is possible to set up more than one college tour, such as Northern AZ Univ.(Flagstaff), AZ. State University Polytechnic (Mesa), Grand Canyon Univ. (Phoenix), or University of AZ. (Tucson).
Other Activities- Shopping at Outlet and major malls, possible hot air balloon rides, meals from other cultures at various restaurants, library visits, ice cream party, out door bar-b-ques and picnics, and swimming pools (at the hotels).
There may be some substitutions due to availability of dates with the corresponding agency; however, it will be within the same theme for that day.
