Gorgeous Guam
Taylor’s Global Educational Tours focus is to provide experiential learning by being immersed in the culture and surroundings while involving communication skills of speaking and writing. Imagine having fun learning about history, geography, ecology, and government, and improving your education at the same time!
Every day of the tour has a theme (it sometimes spans more than one day) and an assignment, some are about conversation and some are writing. Participants are required to keep a journal daily and write about their experiences which not only provides a record of what they did, but it is also adds to their education in writing when the teacher reviews it, adding comments in a positive helpful manner to improve their communications. The themes used are:
CULTURE – Starting with an introduction to the central part of the island with a visit to Two Lovers Point, an ancient Latte site, the Basilica, the Plaza de Espana Spanish fort, Gef Pa’go, where participants can see demonstrations of coconut candy making, rope making and coconut leaf weaving. Will also learn about the Spanish culture and how it has impacted the island. Chamorro Village is a Wednesday night must as the local vendors display many items and local food can be purchased.
HISTORICAL- Focuses on the Pacific War Theater and the War in the Pacific National Park, which has several sites around the island, including Asan Beach Unit and overlook, Gaan Point and the Visitors Center that has interactive displays. Also included is a visit to Talofofo Falls where, Yoki, the Japanese soldier who hid for 30 years had a cave.
ECOLOGICAL- Ritidian Point at the northern end of the island with its stunning beaches and the National Fish and Wildlife center, which has displays of the various types of landscapes on the island; a visit to an underwater aquarium to view sea life.
GOVERNMENT- Hagatna is the capital of Guam and the seat of government, which will include a visit to the legislature building; a visit to a senators office, police station, fire station, and post office to mail a postcard home.
EDUCATION – A tour of University of Guam and possibly a class with one of the professors (subject to be determined or choose one of the above topics); a tour of the community college; and a visit to the planetarium.
OTHER ACTIVITIES – Shopping, is of course included- at Micronesia Mall, K-mart and the Saturday morning Flea Market. There are beach walks, swimming and possibly some sporting activities.

How to Have all this fun?
This is a Ten-Day trip (unless originating from the continental U.S., as 3 days are relegated to travel - one day is lost going, but is gained on the return). Guam tour is a more compact trip and some of the above activities may span more than one day, yet everyday is an adventure and something new is learned!
Participants return with a notebook filled with writing examples, brochures, pictures, and most of all, an appreciation for a remote location of the world and its importance to history, which includes an advantage for academic improvement.
Fees are all inclusive, that is airfare, travel insurance, ground transportation, lodging, meals and entry fees for various sites. Lodging can be home stays (if it can be arranged with personal friends or family) or a college dormitory (if available). For some locations it will be a safe hotel/motel stay with adult supervision.
Permission forms must be signed upon registration with a deposit to hold a reservation. Itineraries are provided before the trip with contact information. An international phone card allows for participants to call home at least once during the trip.
